I began meditating in 1982, initially in the Tibetan Gelugpa tradition and then in the Theravada of Thailand. I moved into the Mahasi tradition of Vipassana, studying with both Western teachers and Burmese masters. I have been fortunate in my teachers. They have been many and I have learnt something from each of them. I would, however, especially like to acknowledge Michele McDonald, John Hale, Sayadaw U Pandita, Ariya Baumann (formerly Ariya Nani) and Sayadaw U Vivekananda.
I have spent about ten years in silent retreat, primarily with them. I also have a little aquaintance with the Sakya tradition and the Dzogchen tradition of Namkai Norbu Rinpoche, for which I am grateful. While my experience in these practices is limited, it has strenghtened my respect for the variety of spiritual traditions.
I have been teaching for some years and delight in it. It is wonderful to be amongst practitioners and a joy to hear and see the beneficial changes that their practice brings them.
I founded and led the Canberra Insight Meditation Group (CIMG) (in about 2007). I now share the leadership with John McIntyre and occasionally with senior members of CIMG.
A list of the retreats I lead is to be found at the bottom of the front page of the CIMG site and here. Use the contact address to go on a list for email notifications of these retreats.
